Little Bunting (Emberiza pusilla) at Ceuta

A Little Bunting (Emberiza pusilla) captured and ringed at Ceuta on 7 November 2017 by the Chagra Ringing Group. It’s the first record for the city and the third for Morocco.

There are two confirmed records in Morocco: one captured and ringed at Souss-Massa National Park in October 2013 (Ramírez et al. 2013), and another photographed at Tiznit in February 2016 (Praus 2016). In the past, three records were known (compiled in “Birds of Morocco” by Thévenot et al. 2013), although two of these were not accepted by the Moroccan Rare Birds Committee.

In Algeria, there is one possible old record. Here is a quote from Isenmann & Moali (2000): “one (dubious) capture in the 19th century. No recent record”. In Tunisia, no known records as well (Azafzaf et al. 2015, Isenmann et al. 2005).
