Lesser Flamingo at Oued Souss, Morocco

An adult Lesser Flamingo (Phoeniconaias minor) was observed at the estuary of Oued Souss on the 1 January 2019 by a Swiss birding group (K. Varga, D. Henseler, S. Werner and R. Wüst). This is the 16th record for Morocco, and the third in Oued Souss.

The next day, the bird was still present at the same site (Frank van Groen).

The previous 15 records were summarised in Rihane et al (2017).

Two days earlier in the same trip (29 December 2018), the Swiss group found the second Isabelline Shrike (Lanius isabellinus) for Morocco at Tamri estuary.
