A White-backed Vulture (Gyps africanus) was observed on 5, 6 and 8 July 2017 at Jbel Moussa, northern Morocco (Rachid El Khamlichi). The bird was flying in the area with 4 Rüppell’s (Gyps rueppelli) and Griffon Vultures (Gyps fulvus).
This would be the second record for Morocco if accepted by the Moroccan Birds Rare Committee (MRBC). The first was observed near Tétouan in May 2014 and was also with Rüppell’s (3 birds) and Griffon Vultures. Read: First record of White-backed Vulture for Morocco and North Africa.
Update: the observation was not accepted by the MRBC in its report No 24.
Vautour africain (Gyps africanus) à Jbel Moussa
Un Vautour africain (ou Vautour à dos blanc) a été observé les 5, 6 et 8 juillet 2017 à Jbel Moussa, au nord du Maroc (Rachid El Khamlichi). L’oiseau a été observé en vol dans la zone avec 4 Vautours de Rüppell (Gyps rueppelli) et des Vautours fauves (Gyps fulvus).
Ce serait la deuxième mention pour le Maroc s’elle est acceptée par la Commission d’Homologation Marocaine (CHM). Le premier Vautour africain pour le Maroc et l’Afrique du Nord a été observé près de Tétouan en mai 2014 et était aussi avec des Vautours de Rüppell (3 oiseaux) et fauves.
Mise à jour: l’observation n’a pas été homologuée par la CHM (rapport n ° 24).
